About the Artist

Whittier Mikkelsen comes from a family of artists.  With her mother, a professional storyteller, her father, a pianist, and both brothers tattoo artists, she had a deep appreciation for the arts from the start.  She began her love of photography and darkroom work in high school, but her career focus turned to emergency room mental health, with a masters degree in clinic psychology.  She has a natural way of being with people and viewed her professional work in the ER as an art form.

When she could no longer work due to chronic pain and mobility issues secondary to cerebral palsy, she found herself needing to slow down.   This “slowing down” over the past few years, caused Whittier to look deeply within herself and the natural world. She began to see the world through a fresh view point. Whittier’s art has been shown at The Dunedin Fine Arts Center, Stirling Art Gallery in Dunedin, The Art Lofts in St Petersburg, and local cafes.
